Aim

The planed Halkali – Kapikule line (HKRL) in Turkey will provide a high speed rail link for services from and to Europe. For freight trains a terminal is foreseen that should serve as local intermodal terminal for greater Istanbul and as HUB for rail transport to the Asian part of Turkey.

Identification of 5 locations for the terminal. Evaluation of these locations regarding their quality in terms of rail operations and logistics situation. Principle layout of the terminal as HUB and local terminal. Adjustment of the layout according to traffic forecast (derived from HKRL traffic model). Definition of an operations model for the terminals. Detailed location layout for two locations. Adjustment with local engineers according to land acquisition and geotechnical survey. Definition of operational access conditions for access from the existing and from the new line. Cost calculation of the terminal investment and operations costs and economic situation as input into a CBA. Application for funding from EU.
