The accessibility of Catalunya by the European standard gauge rail offers new opportunities for combined traffic. The market driven development of a location near Figueras was the aim of this project. With surveys in Spain, France, Germany and other west European countries, the commercial viability of the location was established. A suitable operational concept for the regional connections and an analysis of the long distance traffic considering the logistical requirements were the basis of the planning of the terminal. The technical planning of the layout options then served as the basis for the realization of the terminals
